The government has identified infrastructure as a top priority.

Upcoming infrastructure projects in Egypt

Cairo Metro Line, Purchase of trains

Cairo Metro is designed to address some of Cairo's stifling traffic problems by alleviating congestion and improving regulation. Specifically, the Project will increase the capacity of Cairo Metro Line II as more trains will become available for passenger transport and the fleet availability will improve from 79 percent to 88 per cent, ultimately increasing daily ridership capacity by around 23 per cent.

This increase will be sustained through a modal shift towards the metro system which to date remains largely underutilized.
