The Suez Canal Authority has signed a contract to export two tugboats to Italy — marking the authority’s first step into the export market.
According to the agreement, the two tugboats will be manufactured and supplied with a towing capacity of 90 tons and equipped with advanced propulsion systems, as part of the authority’s efforts to strengthen the national maritime industry.
The Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority affirmed that the Canal enjoys a global reputation that attracts international interest in its projects, enhancing opportunities for cooperation, partnerships, and the exchange of expertise with institutions and organizations in friendly countries.
He added that initiating exports of maritime products represents a new and unprecedented achievement that restores leadership to national shipyards and contributes to reviving their role in regional and international competition.
He noted that this milestone came shortly after the authority enhanced its manufacturing capabilities, achieving strategic export goals in a record time of less than a year and a half.
The tugboats are of a modern design that enables efficient performance in ports, waterways, and various operational environments. Delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
In parallel, other projects are underway, including the construction of new tugboats to serve the Canal and a project to build a number of advanced fishing vessels equipped with the latest fishing, storage, and quick-freezing technologies.
This step marks the beginning of a new phase aimed at boosting the national shipbuilding industry and opening new export opportunities to global markets.
